The Mellorado Archive
Mellorado is an personal digital archive created by artist Paula do Prado. It aims to document her exploration her mixed Afro-Uruguayan and European heritage. The archive was developed out of a need to organise and document various objects, letters, gifts, found materials and other relevant items collected during field study trips back to Montevideo, Uruguay. It became an important resource which forms part of her Masters of Fine Arts Research thesis titled "Mellorado: identity, heritage and transmission" and accompanying major solo exhibition.
The Mellorado Archive is in itself an ongoing project, which will continue to be added to and updated as further research is conducted into the origin and narratives attached to each of the objects it contains. As well as being a personal project of the artist with significance for her family, it is hoped the archive also serves to highlight the intersections between the personal, historical and cultural.
